President Michel Temer will be in Asunción on Wednesday (15 August) to attend the inauguration ceremony of Paraguay president-elect Mario Abdo Benítez. The elections in Paraguay took place on 22 April.

In June, the President-elect of Paraguay chose Brazil as the destination for his first international visit. The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has highlighted that the two nations share strong democratic values and are engaged in deepening regional integration.

Trade relations

This Tuesday (14 August), the Brazilian and Paraguayan Foreign Ministers (Aloysio Nunes Ferreira and Eladio Loizaga) signed an agreement to build an international bridge over the Apa River between the Brazilian municipality of Porto Murtinho (MS) and the Paraguayan district of San Lázaro. The project will create a road connection between the Brazilian Midwest and the river port of Concepción.

Brazil is currently Paraguay's main trading partner, with two-way trade between the two nations reaching US$ 3.78 billion in 2017. Flows have already reached US$ 2.2 billion between January and July this year, a 5.7% increase over the same period of 2017. Brazil also maintains the second largest volume of direct investments in Paraguay, estimated at US$ 697 million.
